Helen Marie McBride, 87, of LaFontaine, passed away at 8:57 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Rolling Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in LaFontaine. She was born in Martin County, Indiana, on Wednesday, April 26, 1939, to Charles and Charlotte (Abel) Allen.
Helen graduated from Orleans High School and continued her education at Indiana Business College, where she studied insurance and real estate. She went on to build a long and meaningful career as an insurance agent, dedicating 35 years to Farm Bureau/Norris Insurance.
Helen was a devoted member of Herbst United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served her church family. She helped prepare funeral dinners and was a member of The Circle at Herbst United Methodist. She was also involved with the Swayzee Civic Club. In her free time, Helen loved painting and baking lessons and enjoyed expressing her creativity through sewing and knitting.
Helen is survived by son, Mark (Brenda) McBride of Marion; daughter, Shannon McBride of WA; grandchildren, Briana McBride-Buckley, Andrew R. McBride, Alexander Keenan, Hannah Baumgartner, Tom Driver, Wil Driver; great-grandchildren, Fallon Buckley, Kendall Buckley; brother, Thomas A. Allen of NC; daughter-in-law, Judy McBride of Westfield; and sister-in-law, Norma Jean Allen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alber F. McBride; parents, Charles A. and Charlotte L. Allen; siblings, Robert Allen, and Doris (Chuck) Skarvan; and her son, Martin T. McBride.
At Helen ‘s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.
