Hayes J. Newsome, Jr. “Old Man”, 65, of Lagro, Indiana, died at 7:38 pm, Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Lagro, Indiana. He was born on May 12, 1960, in Gilbert, West Virginia, to Hayes and Rosie (Stroud) Newsome.
Hayes spent many dedicated years working at Wabash Alloys, Newsome’s Disposal and E&J Wrecker Service, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. He was married to Serena Ann Stevens for 47 years, until her passing on December 3, 2025. Hayes had a passion for anything fast and loud – especially his motorcycles and hot rods. When he wasn’t hard at work, he could often be found out on the open road, enjoying the freedom of a ride. Above all, nothing meant more to him than spending time with his beloved wife, Serena, and his son, Jeremy. They were the center of his world.

He is survived by two sons: Jeremy (Erin Shea) Newsome of Lagro, and Eric Himes of Wabash, grandchildren: Georgia, Brittany, Peyton, Seth, and Cameron and great-grandson, River. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Serena A. Newsome.
