
Jack Milton Teegarden, 78, of Marion, went home to meet Jesus at 6:06 am on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Franciscan Health Indianapolis. He had just received his second “remission” from acute myeloid leukemia after a 17-month battle, which he fought courageously. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Friday, August 15, 1947, to Ralph and Martha (Barley) Teegarden. He has been married to his wife, Lisa (Higgins) Teegarden for 33 years.
Jack graduated from Marion High School class of 1965 and served in the United States Army from 1966-1969 as an x-ray technician in which he excelled. Following his military service, Jack continued his work at Huntington Hospital. He later worked at Wesley Press. He was a former CNA at both the VA as well as Bradner Village. For 25 years, he worked at The Chronicle-Tribune in various positions until his retirement in December of 2024.
He had many friends. He loved sports, playing football, basketball and softball in his younger years. He enjoyed watching the Cubs and professional football and college basketball. He was passionate about animals and the beauty of God’s creation.
Along with his wife, Jack is also survived by his brother, Ronald (Karen) Teegarden of Upland; aunt, Shirley Gary of Gas City; niece, Heather (Jason) Teegarden-Davis; nephew, Rick (Debbie) Teegarden and their children. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Brent (Deanna) Higgins and their children and grandchildren, Bradley Higgins; sister-in-law, Lynae (Rich) Danzeisen and their children and grandchildren; special friends, Steve and Linda Worrell who called Jack nearly every day.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Teegarden and Martha Roser; sister, Clara Kelly; plus his aunts, uncles and his in-laws.
In accordance with Jack’s wishes, he will be cremated.
A celebration of life followed by inurnment in Marion National Cemetery with military honors will take place at a later date.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Progressive Cancer Care of Marion and Franciscan Health Hospital of Indianapolis for their loving and compassionate care. The staff became almost like family to us.
