Carolyn L. Schmidt

Carolyn L. Schmidt, 90, Gas City, passed away at 8:55 pm on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Marion Health. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Tuesday, August 27, 1935, to William and Hildreth (Hunt) Hosier.  On March 10, 1951, she married M. Wayne Schmidt who preceded her in 2014.  

Carolyn attended Mississinewa High School and devoted her life to creating a loving home for her family. A lifelong member of Gas City First Christian Church, she served faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and worker of Vacation Bible School. She also cherished her time with the Young at Heart group, where she built lasting friendships. For many years, Carolyn enjoyed selling Avon and built a loyal circle of clients who appreciated her kindness and dedication. Outside of her work and church life, she found joy in bowling, boating, skiing, and fishing – especially when sharing those moments with her husband and family. Above all, Carolyn treasured her family deeply, holding them at the center of everything she did. Her life was marked by love, service, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew her.

Survivors include her daughters, Cathy Bomholt of Gas City, Dianna K. (Gary) Dickson of Mason, OH; grandchildren, Patrick (Kim) Hanrahan, Jennifer (Dave) Fox, David N. (Angela) Dickson, Michael (Stacy) Hanrahan, Susie (Keith) Harper, Carolyn (Matthew) Henderson, Christopher (Karis) Bomholt, Jeffrey (Megan Vanover) Wade; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Gerber, Clarice Schmidt, Madonna Schmidt; as well as many treasured nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Hosier and Hildreth Ethel Harris; beloved husband, Wayne Schmidt; son-in-law, Richard “Rick” E. Bomholt; grandson, Jerome W. Dickson; brothers, William Hosier, Albert “Bud” Hosier; and sisters, Dona McFarland, Linda Cowgill.

The family will receive visitors from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at First Christian Church – Gas City, 401 E. N. D St., Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will begin at 11:30 am.  Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
