Shooting in Marion leads to attempted murder warrant

MARION, IN- At approximately 6:14 p.m. on March 24, 2026, Grant County Central Dispatch received reports of a person shot near the intersection of 30th Street and Hamaker Street. When officers arrived, they learned the victim had already been transported by a private vehicle to Marion Health.

Police located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital for advanced treatment.

Investigators say video footage captured the moments leading up to the shooting, showing an argument between two men that quickly escalated into violence. Authorities described the gunfire as reckless, noting that multiple residents in the area were forced to take cover outside their homes.

According to police, after the shooting, the suspect struck the victim in the head with the handgun before fleeing the scene in a black SUV.

The suspect has been identified as Chandell Davis, 51, of Marion. Detectives executed a search warrant at his residence, but he was not located.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Davis on the following charges:

• Attempted Murder

• Aggravated Battery

• Battery with a Deadly Weapon

• Pointing a Loaded Firearm

Police are urging Davis to turn himself in immediately at the Marion Police Department or the Grant County Jail.

Anyone with information about Davis’ whereabouts or details related to the incident is asked to contact Marion Police or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
