Avery Lee Hasty

Avery Lee Hasty, 77, of Gas City, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System – Fort Wayne. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on November 1, 1948, to Thomas W. Hasty and Dorothy K. (Powell) Hasty-Bishir.

Avery was a graduate of Fairmount High School, Class of 1966 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a proud member of the B Company, 124th Signal Battalion, 4th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of his bravery and sacrifice. He was a member of the Legion Indiana Post 313, and belonged to the Legion Riders Family, Sons of The American Legion

Following his military service, Avery worked in landscaping, a fitting path for someone who found great joy outdoors. He loved gardening and canning, and he was especially talented at woodworking, taking pride in creating things with his hands. He is known for his generous heart, tomatoes, banana nut bread, and apple pies. Avery was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors, and anyone in his community-whether they asked for it or not.

He is survived by his sons, Anthony (Diana) Hasty and Randall Hasty; his grandchildren, Alyssa M. Hasty, Jonathan Hasty, Justin Hasty, Nicholas Hasty, and Sierra Hasty; and his brothers, Thomas G. Hasty and Danny L. Hasty.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas W. Hasty; his mother, Dorothy K. Hasty-Bishir; and sister, Sarah L. Hasty-Horn.

At Avery’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at the Marion National Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
