
Patty Sue Sausaman, 92, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 8:20 pm, Thursday, January 22, 2026, at The Waters of Wabash West. She was born on October 14, 1933, in Wabash, Indiana, to Glen and Emma (Higgley) Baer.
Patty was a 1951 graduate of Linlawn High School. She married Joseph Hugh Sausaman in Wabash on June 30, 1951; he died March 12, 2002. Patty was a lifelong member of Richvalley Church, a member of the Women’s Club at the church, and also helped out with the famous Richvalley Tenderloins, but only on the breading station. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and also the Richvalley Home Ec Club. Patty was a wonderful seamstress who sewed more than 1000 gowns and clothing items for Riley’s Children’s Hospital. She kept a daily journal, and enjoyed over 52 years of annual family camp outs. Patty was a wonderful grandma, great grandma, and great-great grandma, and served as a final caregiver to many family members over the years. She loved to play cards and seldom lost. Her family also said she obtained a masters degree in picking up sticks.
She is survived by four children, Kathy (Jim) Dale of North Manchester, Indiana, Tammy (Mike) Howard of Urbana, Indiana, Linda (Paul) Smith of Lagro, Indiana, and Dave (Casey) Sausaman of Wabash, 12 grandchildren; Shane (Gina) Dale, Brad (Marlea) Dale, Chad (Lea) Howard, Jeff (Angie) Dale, Cale (Paige) Howard, Marcy (Jeremy) Lane, Caton (Nicole) Howard, Cameron (Alexis Henry) Howard, Cory (Angel Nance) Smith, Brooke (Jonathan) Gidley, Courtney (Neil) Miller, and Cassidy (Corey) Puglisi, two step granddaughters, Kim Krom and Amy (Jared) Osborne, 28 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Donald W. “Doc” Baer, and two sisters, Peggy L. Bever and Phyllis J. Hawkins.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Jack Suits officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Richvalley Church.
