Homicide/Suicide investigation in Huntington County

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, IN- On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at approximately 9:56pm Medicolegal Death Investigation was conducted at 6583 W. Maple Grove Rd., Dallas Township by the Indiana State Police and Huntington County Coroner’s Office. Huntington Central Dispatch received a call from relatives of the property owner explaining they hadn’t seen the couple for some time, but their vehicle was parked there. This was not the married couple’s primary residence. Huntington County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and upon entering the residence, two deceased persons were found inside on a lower-level floor. Evidence at the scene indicated the two had been there for some time and both had been shot. The scene was secured with no concern for threat to area neighbors. The initial investigation determined that Melanie R. Meyers, age 51, of Huntington, IN, died of a single gunshot wound. Kenneth L. Meyers, age 54, of Huntington, IN, died of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. This was later confirmed after autopsies were conducted at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne Wednesday morning.

Melanie Meyers death has been ruled a homicide, and Kenneth Meyers death has been ruled a suicide. The investigation is ongoing by the Indiana State Police and the Huntington County Coroner’s Office. The Huntington County Coroner’s Office extend their deepest sympathies to the Meyer’s family and friends.

The coroner’s office was assisted by the Indiana State Police, Huntington County Sheriff’s Department, Huntington Central Dispatch, Huntington County LOSS Team. and NEIFC.
