
Phyllis M. Hockett, 89, of Marion, passed away peacefully at 8:58 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on September 12, 1936, to Kenneth Ramp and Kathryn (Wheat) Mayfield. On May 1, 1999, she married Charles E. Hockett, who preceded her in death in 2011.
Phyllis graduated from Mississinewa High School and attended Indiana Business College from 1965-1966. From 1970-1983, she worked as a bookkeeper at the Grant County Welfare Department. Phyllis attended LPN school from 1984-1985 and began working as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 28 years, retiring in 2013. Her career included service at Wesleyan Health Care, American Nursing Care in Indianapolis, Tender Care Home Healthcare, and specialized track/ventilator nursing.
She was a devoted member of Bethel Worship Center since 1978 and previously attended First Pentecostal Church, where she taught Sunday school for 20 years, sang in the choir, and participated in numerous church activities. Phyllis enjoyed working in her yard, cheering for the Chicago Cubs, and following NASCAR, IndyCar, and the Colts. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Krista (Mitchell) Murphree and Justin Lewis; great-grandchildren, Cannon Murphree, Fineas Murphree, Samarah Lewis, Jasper “Jazz” Lewis, Beatrice Lewis, and Mercy Lewis; sister, Lucretia (Kenneth) Bassett; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Jesse Mayfield; husband; daughter, Deborah K. Bagley; sisters, Mary Jane Dobson, Lena Sue Ramp, and Mildred Andrews; and brothers, Samuel Ramp, Franklin L. Ramp, and Bill Ramp.
At Phyllis’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.
