Mary Carolyn Sheets Jones, 93, Jonesboro, passed away at 10:07 am on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Twin City Healthcare in Gas City. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Wednesday, March 16, 1932, to Ernest and Miriam (Merriman) Sheets. She married Clymer D. Jones on July 1, 1950 and they shared 59 years of marriage until his passing on May 1, 2009.
Mary graduated from Fairmount High School in 1950 and was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a member of Fowlerton United Methodist Church and a 4-H Leader “Lake Galatia” for 27 years. Mary enjoyed gardening, reading, and working the voting polls. In addition, she enjoyed fishing and camping and even enjoyed bank fishing while in Florida. More than anything, she loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Carolyn (Denny) Darr of Anderson, Albert D. (Robyn Mitchell) Jones of Marion, Michael (Leah) Jones of Jonesboro; brothers, Robert (Mary Jane) Sheets of Lake Placid, FL, Stephen (Linda) Sheets of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Shannon, Eric, Shelly (Rett), Ben (Kelly), Laura (Scott), Rebekah (Loren), Neal (Lisa), Curtis, Michael (Jenn), Elisha (Matthew); 23 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Thelma Sheets, Gail Sheets and Deloris Jones; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Miriam Sheets; husband, Clymer D. Jones; son, William R. Jones; brothers, David E. (Mary) Sheets, Richard E. Sheets, Jack Leroy Sheets, Phillip (Anna) Sheets, James F. Sheets; sister-in-Law, Phyllis A. Berndt; and brothers-in-law, Richard Jones and John Albert (Janice) Jones.
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.
A funeral service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Fowlerton United Methodist Church 315 Franklin St., Fowlerton, IN. Pastors Glen Davis and Ella Nickles will be officiating with burial following at Gardens of Memory – Marion.
