Salvator “Sam” Mangia

Salvator "Sam" Mangia, age 101, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at 9:47 pm on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Born on December 20, 1923, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of Onofrio and Francesca “Frances” (Martorana) Mangia.

Sam was a proud graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School and an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his military service, he worked as an adjuster for American Security and later joined Finance and Insurance, owned by the Marcuccilli family.

A man of deep faith and community spirit, Sam was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Elks, where he enjoyed golfing. He spent 15 wonderful years living in Ocala, Florida, where he was a member of the board of Oak Run.

Sam had a passion for golf and played for as long as he was able. He was also an avid follower and investor in the stock market, always keeping a keen eye on financial trends. He also generously volunteered with the IRS, helping individuals file their taxes. More than anything, Sam was dedicated to his family as a loving father and grandfather to three generations of grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Lucia Bailey of Indianapolis, IN; sons, Joseph (Christina) Mangia of Terre Haute, IN, and David Mangia of Newburgh, IN; grandchildren, Karen Mangia of Indianapolis, IN, Sarah (Tony) Cline of Sterlington, LA, Michelle (Mike Reed) Bell of Terre Haute, IN, Thomas (Kristine) Mangia of Spencer, IN, Richard (Cassandra) Bailey of Indianapolis, IN, and Paul (Diana Wong) Mangia of Daly City, CA; great-grandchildren, Bailee Price and Leilah Bell of Terre Haute, IN, Mason Adams of Carmel, IN, Mason Mangia of Daly City, CA, and Aubrey and Jordan Mangia of Spencer, IN; and great-great-grandchild, Everlee Price of Terre Haute, IN. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Sam was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene (Vrabely) Mangia; his parents; sisters, Anne Howell and Marie Ray; brother, Anthony Mangia; grandson, Christopher Bailey, and other cherished family members.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, October 20, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 W. Kem Rd., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Sam's life will begin at 1:00 pm with Father Michael Block officiating.  Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
