Douglas "Doug" Michael Atkinson, 49, of Yorktown, passed away at 5:15 pm on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial in Muncie. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Tuesday, July 22, 1975, to William and Sharon (Clem) Atkinson.
Doug graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1993 and attended Indiana University and Purdue University, where he earned a master's degree. Doug worked as an IT specialist in the library at Ball State University from 2012 to the present.
Doug had a passion for video game design and founded his own video game design company. His greatest joy was his children and their lives and pursuits. He also had a very eclectic taste in music.
He is survived by his partner, Rebecca Baker; his children, Ripley, Hamish and Aila; his mother, Sharon Atkinson; and his brothers, Bill (Tamera) Atkinson and Chris (Elise Huston) Atkinson.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Atkinson, and Rebecca's parents, Phillip and Kathleen Baker.
The family will receive visitors from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. A Celebration of Life will also be held at a later date.
