Georgia Lavaughn Busch

Georgia Lavaughn Busch, 96, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 11:49 pm Monday, June 23, 2025, at Parkview Wabash Hospital. She was born on March 15, 1929, in Miami County, Indiana, to Lozier L. and Elta M. (Swihart) Rife. Georgia was a 1947 graduate of Chippewa High School in Wabash. She married Joel Bernell Busch in Peru, Indiana on July 11, 1954. They were married for 61 years. Joel died on January 10, 2015. Georgia received her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from Manchester College in 1951, and received her Master's Degree from Ball State University in 1957. Her Masters was in Vocational Home Economics, General Science, Physical Education, and Driver Education. Georgia taught Home Economics/Family and Consumer Science for 40 years. 37 of those years were with MSD of Wabash County. Georgia first taught at Liberty Township in Fulton County from 1950-1953. From 1953-1959 and 1960-1962, she taught at Noble High School, Noble Township. From 1962-1973 she taught at Southwood High School. 1973-1991 she taught at Northfield High School, retiring in 1991. During her career in teaching, she supervised 20 plus students teachers from Ball State, Manchester University, and Purdue. Georgia sponsored Future Homemakers of America Club and served as a 4-H leader for over 20 years. After retiring, she volunteered with the American Red Cross in the canteen. She enjoyed her time with the Ladies Night Out Club, taking short trips with Seniors and Church Groups. She made porcelain dolls, enjoyed china painting and quilting. Georgia was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wabash. She is survived by two sons, Jay B. Busch of Fort Wayne, and Mike L. (Laurie) Busch of Carmel, Indiana; and grandson Nathan A. Busch of Carmel. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joel, brother Jack Rife, sister Marilyn Rife Gable, and brother in law Jim Gable. Memorial services will be 12:00 pm, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash with Dr. Kent Young officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 am -12 pm, prior to the memorial service, Tuesday, at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is Trinity Lutheran Church or any children's hospital. The memorial guest book for Georgia may be signed at www.grandstaff-hentgen.com.
