Philip W. Smith

Philip W. Smith, 86, Gas City, passed away at 5:35 pm on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. He was born in Van Wert, Ohio, on Thursday, January 26, 1939, to Junior and Phyllis (Holman) Smith. On November 9, 1958, he married Linda Sue Crist, who survives. Philip graduated from Swayzee High School and served in the United States Navy. Following his military service, Philip worked as a Production Control Coordinator at Anaconda. He was a proud member of the Masons for 65 years, the Scottish Rite and the Shriners. He was also a long-time member of First Christian Church in Gas City. He enjoyed working out at the Wellness Center, golfing, riding his motorcycle and gardening. He took great pride in his roses. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and going to his grandchildren's activities. Along with his loving wife, Linda, survivors also include his son, Anthony Smith; daughter, Renee (Jon) Foy; granddaughters, Ashlee (Ian) Mill, Erika Foy; sister, Judy (Don) Wright; and brother, Bob (Phyllis) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Phyllis I Smith. The family will receive visitors from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN. Immediately following the time of visitation, a Masonic Service will begin at 11:30 am followed by a funeral service to celebrate Philip's life with Pastor Dustin Jones officiating.  Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
