Miami County Community Foundation honored with ‘Making a Difference’ Award by Ole Olsen Memorial Theater

PERU, IN- The Miami County Community Foundation (MCCF) was recognized with the “Making a Difference” award during Ole Olsen Memorial Theater’s annual banquet held Saturday, May 31, at Garden Gate Café. The award honors individuals or organizations whose contributions have made a lasting impact on the theater’s success. The MCCF received the award in recognition of a $12,500 matching grant awarded to Ole Olsen Memorial Theater to help fund the installation of a new digital marquee and the restoration of historical garden lighting at the Depot Theater. The grant enabled the theater to replace an aging sign with a one-sided, full-color digital marquee that will help promote upcoming performances, workshops, and community events. The project also included upgrades to the electrical system and the relighting of the depot’s iconic globe lights, enhancing the safety, visibility, and beauty of this well-loved corner of downtown Peru.

This grant was made possible through community funds held at the Community Foundation, which allow for flexible, high-impact support of local needs. These unrestricted dollars are part of a current matching campaign, where every gift to an unrestricted fund is matched $2 for every $1 donated, multiplying the power of each contribution.

“We are incredibly honored to receive the ‘Making a Difference’ award,” said MCCF Director of Development Cheryl Broyles.

The new marquee and lighting improvements reflect Ole Olsen’s ongoing commitment to celebrating the arts and engaging the community. The enhancements not only support the theater’s operations but also contribute to the vibrancy and cultural vitality of the area.
