Denver Kirk, 92, Marion, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in Marion. He was born in Jonesville, Virginia, on Sunday, June 5, 1932, to George and Maxie (Kelly) Kirk. On October 18, 1962, he married Mable J. Dickerson, and she preceded him.
Denver graduated from Jonesville High School and joined the United States Air Force where he served his country from 1952 - 1956.
Following his time in the military, Denver worked as a press operator for General Motors in Marion and was a member of The American Legion Van Buren for several years. As a musician, he found joy in playing his collection of guitars. His love of books was reflected in his expansive library, a testament to his lifelong curiosity. He crafted several pieces of furniture with care and precision as a wood worker. He enjoyed auto racing and doing yard work. Whether tending to his yard or cherishing time with his family, he found happiness in life's simple and meaningful moments.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Debbie (Tim) Shirar of North Manchester; son, Douglas (Angie) Kirk of Marion; grandchildren, Chad (Stacey) Shirar, Timothy (Kayona) Shirar, Braxton (Liz) Shirar, John Shirar, Zane (Kayla) Kirk; brother, Walter Kirk; sisters, Lucy Alsup, Lillie Sternfeld, Thelma Kirk; as well as several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Russell and Maxie Kirk; wife, Mable J. Kirk; step son, James Rogers; step daughter, Linda Behrens; brothers, Doyle Kirk, Oscar Kirk, Earnest Kirk; sisters, Mildred King, Blanche Kirk, and Hazel Corman.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Denver's life will begin at 12:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will take place at Park Cemetery.
