After a short battle with pneumonia, Jean Marie Rust, of Warren, Indiana, passed away comfortably and peacefully at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne at 7:15 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Jean was born on October 31, 1936, to Gertrude and Lawrence “Red” Holland in Rochester, Indiana. She was raised with four sisters and graduated as Valedictorian in her 1954 Class at Richland Center High School. Her parents and three of her sisters preceded her in death: Linda, Margaret, and Rose. One sister remains: Mary (Wayne) Alber of Plymouth, Indiana.
She had two daughters, Teri (Dick) Slaybaugh and Nancy Horton, who also preceded her in death in 2001.
Jean married Tom Rust in 1979 and became the step-mother to three children, Michelle Divan, Ross (Amanda) Rust, who also preceded her in death in 2011, and TJ (Ruthann) Rust. She had eight grandchildren, Roman (Jonna), Gabriel, Alexandria (Jr.), Robert (Amy), Adrianna (DiMari), Clayton (Makenze), Trevor, and Lauren, and five great-grandchildren, Stoan, Peyton, Brenda, Brielle, and Calvin.
Jean was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Marion, Indiana. Her passport had many stamps from her travels, but she especially enjoyed England and Italy. Her playing card was always full. She was an avid bridge player and will be missed at many games, leaving players a chance to finally win. She is surely playing a winning card game already with those who went before her.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
