
M. Colleen Campbell, 86, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 10:39 pm, Saturday, August 24, 2024, at her home. She was born on February 4, 1938, in Wabash County, Indiana, to Benjamin H. and Rosa Ethel (Clupper) Friermood.
Colleen was a 1956 graduate of Somerset High School. She married John Martin Campbell, Sr. in Hernando, Mississippi on March 30, 1957; he died October 26, 1998. She worked 17 years as the head cook at White's Residential and Family Services. She also worked in the Wabash County Hospital OB department, and Clark's Grocery Store. Colleen was a former member of the Church of Christ at Treaty, and a current member of Dora Christian Church. She also belonged to the Tri Township Club, The Winchester Senior Center, and a Euchre Club. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking, and volunteering at church. Colleen especially enjoyed attending her kids and grandkid's activities.
She is survived by five children; John M. (Sherry) Campbell, Jr. and James M. Campbell, both of Wabash, Julie M. (Scott) Hendry of Andrews, Indiana, Joseph M. Campbell of Carlisle, Indiana, and Jason M. (Kim) Campbell of Wabash, 12 grandchildren; Michael (Ashley) Hendry, Janet (Mickey) Legesse, Christy Campbell, Jacob Campbell, Jerimiah Hendry, Karin (Josh) Tart, Allison (Tanner) Hendrix, Levi (Gail) Campbell, Jennifer (Brian) Bauman, Joshua Campbell, Caitlyn (Erik) Bennett, and Natalie Campbell, 14 great-grandchildren; Justin Castle, Madison Campbell, Gabriel Campbell, Thomas Campbell, June Bennett, Odin Bennett, Indiana Legesse, Izzy Legesse, Evelyn Tart, Nora Tart, Amelia Hendrix, Jordyn Hendrix, Layla Hendry, and Liam Hendry, and two great-great-grandchildren; Berkly and Oakly Castle. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, James Friermood, Harold Friermood, and Bill Friermood, and two sisters, Lucille Hemphill, and Ida Mae Fry.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, August 30, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Mark Wisniewski, Minister officiating. Burial will be in Mississinewa Memorial Cemetery, Somerset. Friends may call 4:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Dora Christian Church.
