Patricia Louise (Griffith) Cox

Patricia Louise (Griffith) Cox peacefully passed away after a brief illness on July 19, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Ethamae Griffith, her half-sister, Mary Helen Baker; her grandson, Bobby Cox; and her life partner, Pearlann Gould. She is survived by her children, Teri (Max) Sobel, Ron (Cindy) Cox, Bob (Valerie) Cox, and Randy (Randy Hood) Cox; her grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren Cox and Jamie (Cox) Brosam; and four great grandchildren.

Pat graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1953. After 12 years of being a stay-at-home mom, she took a job as a teller for Marion Federal Savings and Loan. In 1969, she was thrilled to be selected for a secretarial position at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Marion. She received several promotions while at the VA, culminating in serving as the executive secretary to the Chief of Psychology. She loved working at the VA and made many lifelong friends there. She was selected as the Marion VA Woman of the Year in 1983, an honor she cherished. She was also a member of the Federal Employees Federal Credit Union Board for many years.

Pat loved Gas City, and her kids knew her to be a social butterfly. She was a member of the Gas City First United Methodist Church, and loved singing in their choir. She took her singing talent even further, as a member of the Marion Easter Pageant choir for decades, and also performed with several community choirs. She loved going to the Marion YMCA to exercise with her friends, and supported the Well Food Bank and the Grant County Rescue Mission with her donations. She enjoyed meeting for frequent reunions with her 8th grade classmates. She also enjoyed attending the Gas City Concerts in the Park every summer. Pearlann and she enjoyed attending concerts at the Honeywell Center in Wabash with their three Walnut Drive friends, Joyce and the two Shirleys, and traveling across the United States on road trips.

Pat was a wonderful cook (her chocolate torte was legendary) and a very competitive card player! She loved dressing up in clothes with sparkles or fringes - she loved being “a dandy” as she put it. She was also an Indiana University basketball and Indianapolis Colts football fan.
