Mark Edward Overmyer

In the spring of 2000, Mark Overmyer, born 5/7/1954, in St. Paul, and I began our life together.

Although the marriage decision had been made, we were looking for a home. The one we chose was not my favorite, but I heard Mark and his sweet daughter planning a bedroom for her and the big back yard for our dog. Their excitement at having a home with just our family attached was contagious.

We made the offer that day, and discovered, trite as it sounds, it’s the family that makes a home, fills it with laughter, love, and serious teasing.

Until he retired from Brodbeck Seeds, Mark was a truck driver, and he looked the part. He always wore a baseball cap and iron toed shoes. And he was always prepared for any situation that could arise on the road, so he helped people. The grizzly guy with a Brodbeck cap may have initially raised concerns, but as soon as he smiled, teased the children, and got a vehicle moving, Mark was the hero.

Over the years, I learned that growing up on a farm in Winamac and attaining education at IU created a foundation of life-long learning. From watching Robert F. Kennedy speak from the Wabash Cannonball in Logansport to collecting every article and photograph from the moonwalk, Mark absorbed information and understood how ideas work together.

Mark is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lori Overmyer, and his daughter Jessica Overmyer.

Mark is also survived by his mother Eleanor Overmyer, Winamac, and sister Jayme Cassell (Sam), Logansport, as well as Jayme’s daughters Brittany Cassell (Colorado) and Heather Cassell (Minnesota).

Mark is also missed by his sister-in-law, Joni Bishop, Martinsville, IN, and father-in-law, Jim Bishop, Martinsville.

The family has opted not to have a service. Mark was private in his life, so we want to honor that. He was NOT opposed to donations to FISH and the Animal Shelter. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash.
