Phylis A. Kepler

Phylis A. Kepler, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. Born on December 22, 1932, in Marion, Indiana, Phylis was the daughter of Meredith and Edith (Renbarger) Fowler. She spent her entire life in the community she loved and called home.

On October 10, 1953, she married John Draper, and together they shared 21 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 1974. On February 14, 1976, she married Theodore C. Kepler, who preceded her in death in 2010.

A proud member of Marion High School’s Class of 1950, Phylis dedicated 20 years of service as an Emergency Room Secretary at Marion General Hospital. She was a woman deeply committed to her community, her church, and the many organizations she faithfully served.

Phylis was a devoted member of United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and served on its Board of Trustees. Her extensive community involvement included longtime membership with the Wilson-Vaughan Hostess House, where she also served as President of the Board of Directors. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority and served as its Grand President. She was also a member of the B.T. Chapter of P.E.O., the Monday Conversation Club, and the Marion Woman’s Club.

Her dedication to healthcare and volunteerism extended beyond her professional career. She served as President of the Marion General Hospital Auxiliary and was also a member of the State Hospital Auxiliary. Phylis enjoyed teaching etiquette classes both locally and at Taylor University, sharing her knowledge and grace with others. She also dedicated her time as a Brownie Scout Leader.

One of the most special relationships in her life was the bond she shared with her twin brother, Philip. Their connection remained strong throughout their lives and was a source of great joy and comfort to her.

Although not twins, Phylis and her sister Gina were always together – if you saw one, the other was close by.

Phylis is survived by her beloved daughter, Mary Beth (Harold) Rauzi of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Grown-up Mary Beth called Phylis her best friend – they loved to shop, play cards, and drink coffee together.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Draper; her second husband, Theodore C. Kepler; her parents, Meredith and Edith Fowler; her sister, Mary Virginia Wyant; her brothers, William C. Fowler, Richard Fowler, and her twin brother, Philip Fowler.
