
Thomas Dewayne McIntire, 82, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at 2:50 p.m., surrounded by his loved ones.
Thomas was born on February 25, 1944, in Muncie, Indiana, to Lawrence and Doris McIntire. He proudly served his country in the United States Army on Active Duty from 1961 to 1964 and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia.
While in Georgia, Thomas met the love of his life, Margaret Jeanette Abernathy, in Atlanta. After only six weeks of knowing one another, the two were married on February 16, 1963. Shortly after their marriage, Thomas and Margaret moved to Marion, Indiana, where they built their life and raised their family together.
Thomas retired as a Machine Operator from Dana Corporation. He was also a proud member of the Van Buren American Legion for 46 years.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Margaret; his daughters, Joye (Scott) Konig, Lisa (Andy) Wimmer, and Thomasina (Brian) Wrangham; his grandchildren, Jennifer (William) Southerland, Stephen (Jenna) Konig, Alysha (Dallas) Street, Scott (Ashley) Wallace, Jeffrey (Samantha) Wallace, Lauren (Austin) Forrester, Samuel Konig, Brady Wrangham, and Brant (Chelsea) Wrangham; along with 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, James (Kathryn) McIntire, brother-in-law, Kenneth Abernathy, and his special friend, Colin Kelly.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Doris McIntire; his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Bill Abbott; his grandsons, James Wallace and Christopher “Butch” Waggy; his great-granddaughter, Jessilynn “Ali” Brown; and his beloved furry son, Bandit.
Thomas will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication throughout his working years, his 46 years as a member of the American Legion, and most of all, the love he had for his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
A Graveside Service will be held at a later date.
