
On September 2, 2026, at 1:10 a.m.,Our Queen Alberta Hanthorn passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Alberta was born on August 2, 1936, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Lottie and Paul Whitaker. She later moved to Marion, Indiana, where she met her husband, Harry Hanthorn, at the age of 17. They went on to marry and spend the next 65 years together, raising 15 children.
Alberta was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time at the casino and bingo hall. She loved the color lavender, reading, gardening, and playing Yahtzee. Alberta enjoyed spending her time in her backyard with her daughters and grandchildren.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hanthorn; her daughters, Pammy Cruz, Tammy Serrano, and Vivian Morales; and her daughter-in-law, Deborah Hart-Duncan; her sons, Dennis Duncan, David McMillen, and Harvey Hanthorn.
She was a grandmother to numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Alberta held two of her grandchildren, Raquel (Angel) Valerio and Mimi Chavez, especially close to her heart.
She is survived by her daughters, Alice Alaniz Hanthorn, Candace (Jorge) Ramirez, Lisa (Miguel) Lugo, Star (Ricardo) Luz, Bridget Mendoza-Hanthorn, and Tabatha (Vinny) Howell; and her sons, Mike Duncan, Roger (Betty) Hanthorn, and Harry Hanthorn; son-in-law Jose Serrano.
Alberta will be deeply missed by her family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
The family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Alberta’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m.
