19-year-old Laketon man wanted in crash that killed 17-year-old

WABASH COUNTY, IN- This from WPTA.com: A warrant was issued Friday for a 19-year-old Laketon man in connection with a crash that killed a 17-year-old.

Jonathan Patton is charged with operating while intoxicated, causing death.

On April 29 at about 6:10 p.m., Patton was driving at a “high rate of speed” southbound on County Road 700 West in Wabash County when he lost control, according to court records obtained by 21Investigates. The vehicle left the roadway, striking a tree and splitting in half.

Patton suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger, 17-year-old Christoper Grindle, also of Laketon, died at the scene.

Using yaw marks, tire tracks left when a vehicle is travelling too fast on a curve, investigators estimated Patton was driving between 118 and 126 miles per hour ahead of the crash.

He was also found to be under the influence of THC at the time of the crash, court documents say.
