Phyllis J. Smith, 82, Marion, passed away at 4:13 pm on Friday, July 3, 2026. She was born in Albany, Kentucky, on Wednesday, October 20, 1943, to James and Gertie (Carr) Sells.
She worked for more than 30 years at RCA, retiring on June 30, 2001, after a long and dedicated career. She was a wonderful cook who poured love into every meal, and nothing made her happier than hosting holidays and family dinners where she cooked for her entire family. She was a devoted mother and a devoted wife, married for over 50 years, and she loved her family deeply. She cherished her brothers and sisters and remained close to them throughout her life. Hardworking and steadfast, she approached everything she did with commitment and care. She enjoyed bluegrass gospel music, antiquing, and visiting flea markets-never missing a single knick‑knack that caught her eye. Her life was marked by love, loyalty, and the joy she found in simple, meaningful moments.
Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Smith of Marion; son, Tracy (Christie) Smith of Ooltewah, TN; sister, Virginia Sells of Albany, KY; grandson, Josh Cason; and great grandchild, Xalynn Carter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Smith; parents, James and Gertie Sells; brothers, Robert Sells, Joe Sells, Freddie Sells; and sisters, Delane Sells and Joyce Bookout.
The family will receive visitors from 8:30 am to 9:30 am on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
