HUNTINGTON COUNTY, IN- On Monday, June 15, 2026, deputies responded to a reported road rage incident on Interstate 69 near mile marker 284 in Huntington County.
The investigation determined that during a dispute between two motorists, one driver fired a handgun at another vehicle. The bullet struck and entered the victim’s van. Witnesses provided information that helped investigators identify the suspect vehicle.
Huntington County Sheriff’s Office deputies requested assistance from the Indiana State Police in locating the suspect vehicle. Indiana State Police subsequently located the vehicle in Grant County and conducted a traffic stop.
During the investigation, the driver, William Davis, admitted to firing one round during the incident. The firearm was recovered, and Davis was taken into custody without further incident.
Davis was transported back to Huntington County, where he was booked into the Huntington County Jail by Sheriff’s Office deputies on preliminary charges of:
• Criminal Recklessness (Level 5 Felony)
• Pointing a Firearm (Level 6 Felony)
• Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor)
The Huntington County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Indiana State Police, Grant County Sheriff’s Department, Markle Police Department, and Huntington County Combined Dispatch.
All criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
