Sharon Rose Gunyon, 90, died May 14, 2026 at home with her family. She was born January 1, 1936 to George Maurice and Eunice Hendey Gunyon in Grant County, Indiana. Sharon Rose graduated from Marion High School and later graduated from Ball State University with both a BS and an MS in teaching. She taught for 48 years in the Marion School System. She lovingly remembered all the children she taught and talked often of them. For Sharon, teaching was a calling and not just a job.
Sharon took lots of fun trips to New York City to see Broadway Plays with her good friend, Catherine Bobson and played doubles tennis with her friend, Marilyn. She lived a full life but mostly she loved her family.
We all, her family, have such good memories of Sharon. Joe, a great nephew, recently wrote: “The older I get the clearer it becomes just how much you love me. We were part of your life in the way kids really only are with their parents. I’ve always felt like you were a second Mom, but recently I started thinking about how extraordinary it is that you chose to do that for us. You’d already done it once for your brother’s kids, Maurice, Susan and Eric, and you doubled down on being extraordinary for me, Charlie and Hank. Some of my most vivid and wonderful childhood memories are spending time with you while you lived your life. Playing in the gymnasium at Marion Justice, running around The Coliseum while you planned events, hanging out in the music room at church during bell choir – we were just with you all the time, being rotten and being yours.”
We each have our own vivid memories of Sharon. We know that not everyone gets a person as special as Sharon Rose and we feel that we got the very best sister / Aunt that ever could be. By her love and care for us, Sharon taught us how to love and care for each other.
Survivors include sister, Emily Jane Gunyon Morris; nephews, Maurice “Skip” (Karen) Gunyon, Eric (Sheryl) Gunyon; nieces, Susan K. Gunyon, Michele (David) Wagner; great nephews, Charles (Bridgit) Gunyon, David Henry “Hank” Gunyon, Samuel (Jill) Gunyon, Nathan D.
