Mary E. McClain

Mary E. McClain, 73, Marion, passed away at 5:53 pm on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Marion Health. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Wednesday, February 25, 1953, to Charles and Eileen (Bannon) McClain.

Mary graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1973. She attended the Salvation Army in Anderson and had also attended Grace Community Church.

She found joy in the simple, comforting things like knitting, crocheting, and losing herself in word search puzzles; but her greatest joy came from giving. Always ready to lend a hand, she lived her life with a kindness that asked for nothing in return. Though she had no children of her own, she poured her love into her nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her compassion was as wide as the open outdoors, and no one ever heard her speak an unkind word. In September 2007, she gave her heart to God and was baptized in her faith, a commitment that reflected the grace and gentleness she carried every day of her life.

Survivors include her brother, Jim McClain of Van Buren; sister, Margaret A. (Randy) Wagoner of Plainfield, Marsha (David (late)) Strong of Jerome, MI, Kathy (Gene) Brock of University Place, WA; plus, 11 nieces, nephews; many great nieces and nephews; a few great-great nieces and nephews; and several extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles F. and Eileen E. McClain.

The family will receive visitors from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
