Matthew Allen Thompson, 51, Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 10:30 p.m. while hospitalized at Community North Heart and Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis after suffering from a ruptured aorta.
He was born in Wabash, IN, on Tuesday, August 27, 1974 to Darrell and Vicky (Foust) Thompson.
Matthew attended Marion High School and attended Ball State and Indiana University. He loved learning new things, even teaching himself 14 languages.
Matthew was creative and artistic. He loved music, playing his guitar, and writing songs of his own. He enjoyed collecting aluminum cans, caring for his many dogs, and getting annual birthday tattoos.
Many know him as being a unique, sweet “old” soul, who was just a bit quirky…a perfect combination that made up Matthew. He cared very much for his family and friends and helped them whenever they were in need.
He had a hard life, but he had a kind heart. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his parents, Darrell and Vicky Thompson; siblings, Andrea Michelle (Victor) Vinluan, Darrell “Stephen” (Sheila) Thompson II, Derrick James Thompson, Jordon Robert (Holly) Thompson, Kiley Renee Thompson; 1 niece and 8 nephews; plus, a large extended family.
The family will receive visitors from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
