Scottie Mcarthur VanHoose, 83, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 5:30 pm, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at The Waters of Wabash East. He was born on March 1, 1943, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to Ed C. O’Rear VanHoose and Molly (Osborne) VanHoose.
Scottie was a proud graduate of Nancy Castle High School in Nippa, Kentucky, and studied to be a machinist at the vocational school. He spent his life working with his hands and his heart, retiring from DBA VanHoose Logging as a timber man in the family logging business. He also dedicated 14 years to Rebel Coal. Faith and community were important to him. Scottie was a member of the former Wabash Chapel Church of God on Middle Street, now known as The Remnant.
He was happiest outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, gardening, or riding his 4‑wheeler, Scottie found peace and joy in the open air. When he had to be indoors, he loved playing card games-especially Rook, his all‑time favorite. Summers were his season. He treasured time spent with his grandkids and great‑grandkids, especially their lively games of pool volleyball that filled the yard with laughter. Scottie lived a life rooted in family, hard work, and the simple pleasures of being outside. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by four children: Jeffrey Scott VanHoose of Peru, Indiana, Timothy Scott (Bobbi Jo) VanHoose, Christopher Scott VanHoose, and Jennifer Renee (Rick) Simpson, all of Wabash; 10 grandchildren: Veronica Renee Marcum of Paintsville, Jeremy Scott (Sam) VanHoose and Destiny Lynn VanHoose, both of Wabash, Ashley Cassandra (Emilee McCoy) VanHoose of Cass Co., Indiana, Anthony Edward (Kate) VanHoose, Richard Scott (Caitlin) Cornett, Timothy Scott (Alexis) VanHoose, Jr., Megan Reshay (Nick) Hostetler, Christopher Blake VanHoose, and Laci Rae Fletcher all of Wabash; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Kermit VanHoose of Paintsville, and two sisters, Hedy Campbell of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Mazie Quillen of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.
