2026 Wabash Kiwanis Club Annual 5th Grade Reading Program

WABASH, IN – The Wabash Kiwanis Club recently completed its annual 5th Grade Reading Program,
donating brand-new books to all 5th-grade students in the Wabash division, including St. Bernard Elementary
School, Wabash Middle/High School, Southwood Elementary School, and Sharp Creek Elementary, with each
student receiving a book to keep and take home.

This impactful program is one of the club’s many initiatives designed to encourage reading proficiency by
promoting a love of books. It continues to support literacy development while strengthening partnerships with local schools.

“The Kiwanis Club is excited to continue providing novels to all 5th-grade students in Wabash City, MSD of
Wabash Co., and St. Bernard, a program extending over 20 years,” said 5th Grade Program Chair, Howard
Halderman. “Kiwanis supports future generations and emphasizes reading as a critical skill. Providing novels
hopefully offers the students a chance to improve their reading skills and learn how reading can be fun and
enjoyable.”

The Wabash Kiwanis Club proudly supports a wide range of youth- and community-focused initiatives,
including Riley Hospital for Children, Access Youth Center, Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana, BABE of
Wabash County, Wabash City Park Department, Wabash County Museum, the Eagles Theatre renovation,
FAME Festival, Honeywell Summer Arts Camps and Arts in Education programs, the Wabash County
Scholarship Pageant, Founder’s Festival, and many more.
