Jack Eugene Middleton, 90, of North Manchester, Indiana, died at 5:30 pm, Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Parkview Wabash Hospital. He was born on February 11, 1936, in Wabash, to Meredith and Ruth (Holcom) Middleton.
Jack, a 1954 graduate of Wabash High School, proudly served in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Patricia K. “Pat” Ross, on December 28, 1958, in Wabash. They shared nearly sixty years together before her passing on November 29, 2018. Jack spent several years working at Merit Shoe Store in Wabash and later retired from J.C. Penney, where his career took him to stores in Wabash, Peru, and Warsaw. He also lived briefly in Nebraska. A man of faith, he was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in North Manchester and more recently attended Manchester Bible Church. Music was one of Jack’s lifelong joys. He built an impressive collection of albums, some treasured since his teenage years. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan, cheering faithfully for IU Basketball, the Chicago Cubs, and Notre Dame Football.
Jack loved the lake life-especially time spent on the pontoon-and he found peace sitting on his deck listening to the radio. An avid walker, he rarely missed a chance to get outside, especially when accompanied by his beloved dog, Max.
He is survived by three children, Marsha Allen of Warren, Indiana, Scott Middleton and Mike (Elizabeth) Middleton, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren, Jason McNabney, Arian Middleton, Octavia Middleton, Miranda Middleton, and Crystal Necessary; great-grandchildren, Amber Gaddy, Brandi McNabney, Caitlynn McNabney, Nathaniel Lopez, Araceli Lopez, Uriel George, and Azriel George; great-great-grandson, Elija McNabney; and his sister, Sue Allegree of Wabash. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister Edith Rose Cowger; and three brothers, James, Larry, and Robert Middleton.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, April 10, 2026 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Mississinewa Memorial Cemetery, Wabash. Visitation for family and friends will be 12-2 pm Friday, at the funeral home.
