Roger D. Gargus

Roger D. Gargus, 72, of Marion, passed away peacefully at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Marion Health.

He was born in South Haven, Michigan, on September 7, 1953, to Doyle and Ruth (Gipsword) Owen. On April 3, 1985, he married the love of his life, Shirley (Blackston) Gargus, who survives.

Roger attended Bangor High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He later worked as a janitor at the Grant County Courthouse, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.

Roger lived a life filled with simple joys and deep devotion to those he loved. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and spending time outdoors. Music was a special part of his life, especially when he played guitar alongside his son Robert. He collected model cars, loved shooting pool and playing cards, and found great happiness in caring for his family. To those who knew him, he was a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gargus of Marion; daughters, Victoria Hayes, Christina Gargus, Donna Gargus, and Joyce VerStrate; sons, Fredrick Gargus, Robert Gargus, James Keeton, Steven Gargus, and James Gargus; many grandchildren and great‑grandchildren; and sisters, Elaine Smith and Doylene Smith.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Doyle Gargus; mother, Ruth Owen; sisters, Ruthie Murphy, Cindy Keeton, and Tammy Tillery; brother, Dennis Gargus; and grandson, Michael Gargus.

Honoring Roger’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
