Fatal crash in Grant County

GRANT COUNTY, IN- On March 10, 2026, at approximately 6:33am Grant County Sheriff Deputies responded to a vehicle crash on Interstate 69 near mile-marker 272 in north bound traffic lanes. Several other First Responders arrived after Grant County Central 911 Emergency Dispatch Center received multiple calls in reference to the crash. Reports claimed a vehicle flipped, two people were ejected, and another person was trapped inside a vehicle. 

Deputies arrived on scene and determined that two vehicles were involved in the crash, a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado truck and a 1996 Chevrolet truck with three individuals injured. One of the injured died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by First Responders. The deceased was Joseph A. Kidwell (45) of Marion. The other injured were transported to an area hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of injuries. 

Deputies investigating the crash gathered information from the scene, witnesses, and surviving participants. Preliminary information revealed that the deceased and his wife broke down in their 1996 Chevrolet truck on the side of the road awaiting on family for assistance when the 2011 Chevrolet truck was passing a Semi tractor-trailer switching lanes and veered off the road striking Kidwell’s truck. 

Agencies responding included Indiana State Police, The Huntington County Sheriff’s Office, Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department, Washington Township Fire, Marion Fire Department, Marion Health Medics, Grant County Indiana Emergency Management, Grant County Emergency Medical Service, Warren Emergency Medical Service, and Grant County Central Dispatch E-911.
