Mary Margaret Coe, 96, of Wabash, Indiana, slipped peacefully from this life into the arms of Jesus, at 9:54 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Parkview Wabash Hospital, surrounded by the family she so deeply cherished. Born on January 1, 1930, in Blue River, Kentucky, to Hiram and Kitty (Bradley) Prater.
On December 7, 1953, she married the love of her life, Earl James Coe, in Peru, Indiana. Together they built a life rooted in devotion, hard work, and the kind of love that leaves a lasting imprint. Earl preceded her in death on June 21, 2025, after 71 years of marriage-years filled with laughter, partnership, and a shared commitment to family.
Mary spent many years working at United Technologies 1968-1980 and later at CMI 1980 until her retirement in 1999. But her true calling was found in the simple joys that made her world beautiful: tending to her gardens and flower beds, gathering with loved ones, chatting with friends and neighbors, and taking long, peaceful walks. She had a remarkable gift for making every person she met feel seen, valued, and welcomed-an ability rooted in her warm humor and her genuine love for people.
Family was the heartbeat of Mary’s life. She expressed her affection through food, especially her fried chicken and gravy, hospitality, and the kind of nurturing presence that made her home a gathering place for generations. Her legacy lives on in the countless memories she created around kitchen tables, in blooming gardens, and in the laughter she sparked so effortlessly.
Mary is survived by her four children, Dorothy J. (Stephen) Deaton of Swayzee, Indiana, and Earl D. (Sherry) Coe, Margaret M. (Sam) Williams, and Jason J. (Teresa) Coe, all of Wabash. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren-Ryan (Lisa) Deaton, Shanann (Bradley) Newhouse, Tyler James (Sarah) Deaton, Brandy (Matt) Dillon, Amanda (Kevin) Richardson, Brian Coe, Joshua Coe, Rachel Coe, Caleb Coe, Matthew Coe, Jacob (Jessica) Williams, and Serena Williams-along with 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and two more great-great-grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Orbie Jean Johnson of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, three brothers, and six sisters.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call from 12-2 pm Thursday, at the funeral home.
