Downtown Wabash Inc. announces economic vitality accomplishments

WABASH, IN- Downtown Wabash, Inc. is proud to share a series of recent accomplishments that reflect continued investment, collaboration, and momentum in the downtown district. Over the past year, DWI has taken meaningful steps to strengthen the downtown environment for businesses, property owners, and visitors alike.

Key highlights include:

● Comprehensive Building Audit Completed

DWI created a detailed audit of buildings within the district, organized by parcel, downtown core, River to Rails areas, upper-story usage, and tenant occupancy. This data-driven approach supports strategic planning and targeted investment.

● Facade Grant Funding Secured

With support from the City of Wabash Redevelopment Commission; DWI secured $50,000 in façade grant funding. Grants totaling over $49,000 were committed for 2025, generating a projected additional $114,000 in new private investment for downtown improvements.

● New Impact Investing Partnership

A partnership with the Community Foundation of Wabash County now allows DWI to offer Impact Investing Loans to small downtown businesses and property owners, expanding access to capital for local growth.

● Funding Diversification Efforts

DWI has begun the process of securing a gaming license to diversify funding streams and support long-term
sustainability.

● Small Business Grant Success

DWI’s Executive Director assisted five small businesses with applications to the American Express Backing Small Businesses Grant program. One of those businesses successfully received a $10,000 grant.
“The Economic Vitality Committee is focused on building a strong downtown business community by attracting new businesses to our core downtown and keeping our existing small businesses open, profitable, and supported.

An investment in downtown is an investment in the heartbeat of our community.” said Steve Downs. “We’re excited to continue building momentum and creating opportunities for investment, revitalization, and business success.”
