Richard was born in Huntington, IN., to Arnold Gene Mauman and Martha Jean (Wohlford) Mauman. He married his high school sweetheart, Cindy, on February 20, 1971. They celebrated 55 years of marriage this year, and always maintained their sense of humor. They resided in Marion, IN., for the majority of their life.
Richard, whose many friends and colleagues knew him as “Dick” or “Rich,” was a tireless worker, with 51 years in the waste management industry. T&C Disposal (1970-1974), while attending Indiana University; Waste Management (1974-1997), holding various operational and leadership positions; Independence Waste & Recycling (1997-2000), which he personally owned and operated; Republic Waste (2000-2013) in sales, operational and management roles; and Waste Away Group (2014-2021) as General Manager.
When not working, he loved watching sports, most notably NASCAR and Indy car racing. His love of racing led him to many of the major and minor race tracks across the United States, often traveling with loved ones and forging priceless memories. Among his favorites were the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Eldora Speedway. Richard also loved spending time outside, especially maintaining a beautiful lawn, birdwatching, traveling and cruising in his classic Chevy.
Richard, along with his wife, Cynthia “Cindy” (Wall) Mauman, contributed countless hours to his faith community, St. Paul Catholic Church and school in Marion, IN. He humbly demonstrated his faith everyday by helping friends and strangers alike.
Richard is survived by his wife and their four children (Tia Brewer, Laura (Steve) Schmidt, Fr. Adam Mauman, and Jennifer (Ross) Price); five grandchildren (Elizabeth (Tanner) Gordon, Victoria Brewer, Jaxton Brewer, Samantha Schmidt, Dylan Price); and three great-grandchildren (Charlotte Leisure, Kayd Leisure and Romi Gordon).
