
William D. “Bill” Atkins, 94, of Marion, passed away in his home at 1:05 am on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Thursday, December 31, 1931, to George and Gwendolyn (Keen) Atkins. On October 29, 1950, he married Elizabeth Ann (Selzer) and she preceded him.
Bill graduated from Van Buren High School and then served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he owned and operated Atkins Service Station and The Super Scoop. He also farmed and raised livestock. Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was also a long-time First Assistant Chief of Center Township Fire Department. He served on the Eastbrook School Board for many years. Bill enjoyed hunting and cooking. After retirement, he loved to travel with his wife. More than anything, Bill was a dedicated family man who loved seeing his family tree grow over the years. He loved his wife dearly and couldn’t wait to be with her again.
Bill is survived by his children, George D. (Vicki) Atkins of Marion, Randall L. (Diane Vande Voorde) Atkins of Fairmount, Shari K. Atkins of Noblesville; grandchildren, George Caleb (Courtney) Atkins, Christopher Shea Atkins, Amber (Bradley) Dillon, Bradley (Brittany) Atkins, Shelby R. Poe, Shauncee (Ryan) Lopez; grandson-in-law, Timothy Jay Poling; great-grandchildren, Cody, Catelynn, Cobee, Cooper, Camyron, Cayeleigh, Gus, Grace, Allison, Kaden, Brooklyn, Alex, Ryan Elizabeth, Bridger; great-great grandchildren, Lincoln and Aubrey; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George D. and Gwendolyn Atkins; wife, Elizabeth Ann Atkins; granddaughter, Amy Jo Poling; sister, Jane A. Korporal; daughters-in-law, Resa Breithaupt Atkins and Deanna Atkins; as well as his beloved dog, Jed.
The family will have a private time of visitation and service to honor Bill’s life.
