Myron Dennis Austin passed away on December 15, 2025 in Indianapolis.
Born in Chicago on August 18th, 1942, to Myron V. and Ruth (Lentema) Austin, Myron, known more familiarly as Dennis, was a graduate of Swayzee High School (1960), Taylor University (1965), and Ball State university (1969).
Dennis married Lois Jackson on April 2nd, 1966, and across their 59 years of life and adventures together they resided in Upland, Sweetser, Marion, Gas City, Huntington, and Chesterton.
For 50 years, Dennis was a committed and caring educator serving as a teacher, principal, and professor for Mississinewa Community Schools, Oak Hill Community Schools, Huntington County Community Schools, Duneland Schools, Taylor University, and Huntington University.
Dennis faithfully served in the local community and in professional organizations including College Wesleyan Church, an adult leader for JC Bodyshop Youth Group, the Sweetser Lions Club, Grant County Child Protection Team, NAESP, IAESP, the International Reading Association, Grant County Retired Teachers, and the Taylor University Parents Council.
Dennis was quick with far too many dad jokes, but even quicker to ask if and how he could help. He, along with his wife Lois, led a life of showing up and caring well for family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and students. He loved Jesus and consistently invited those he met to attend College Wesleyan Church. He greatly enjoyed keeping up with friends – both longtime and new – meeting for lunches, going on bus trips, and attending community events.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Myron V. and Ruth Austin, and his infant sister, Jane Ellen Austin.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Lois Austin; by his brother, Alan (Debbie) Austin; by his children, Jennifer (Rev. Brian) Shivers, Tammy (Greg) McCammon, Stephen (Kate) Austin; by his grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) McKnight, Amanda (Nathan) Ricks, Victor (Alycia) Manley, Allison Shivers, Jaxson Austin, Jace Austin, and Nera Jane Austin; by his nephews and nieces, David (April) Austin, Brad (Kendra) Austin, Holly Austin Eiler; by his great grandchildren, Aria McKnight, Kennedy McKnight, and Layla Ricks.
