PERU, IN- Waiting for court just got a little more comforting—and a lot more colorful.
The Judges of the Miami Circuit and Superior Courts have launched a Little Free Courthouse Library, offering books for adults and children to enjoy while waiting for court. Whether they are facing a legal matter or simply tagging along, visitors can borrow a book, take one home, or donate a favorite to share. For kids, there are coloring books to keep little hands busy and minds at ease.
The initiative is part of a statewide effort started by the Indiana Court of Appeals and was made possible through a generous donation of books from that Court.
“We’ve already seen people using the library—reading quietly or picking out a book to take with them,” said Judge Tim Spahr of the Miami Circuit Court. “It’s a simple way to bring a little comfort into a stressful setting. I’m incredibly grateful to Judges Nancy Vaidik and Dana Kenworthy, and to the Indiana Court of Appeals as a whole, for their support and generosity.”
Open during regular courthouse hours, the Little Free Courthouse Library is a small space with a big heart—proof that even in a serious place like a courthouse, there’s room for joy, imagination, and a good story.
