City of Wabash, School Resource Officers, and the Community Foundation of Wabash County partner to launch Public Safety in Schools Fund

WABASH, IN — The City of Wabash, the Community Foundation of Wabash County, and School Resource Officers (SROs) are proud to announce the creation of the Public Safety in
Schools Fund, a collaborative effort designed to strengthen school safety, student well-being, and
community partnerships.

“This partnership represents our shared commitment to the safety and success of
every student in Wabash,” said City of Wabash Mayor Scott Long. “By investing
together, we’re ensuring our schools remain safe, strong, and united for generations
to come.”

The new fund will provide resources to enhance safety programs, emergency preparedness, and
mental health support, while also funding initiatives that foster positive relationships between
School Resource Officers (SROs), students, and staff.

“As a School Resource Officer, my role goes far beyond safety—it’s about building
relationships and trust,” said SRO R. Sam Hipskind, School Resource Officer for
Wabash City Schools. “This fund allows us to keep building champions on the field,
in the classroom, and throughout our community.”

In addition to safety equipment and training, the fund will support student leadership development,
athletic partnerships, and outreach events that reinforce teamwork and belonging.

The Public Safety in Schools Fund will be managed through the Community Foundation of
Wabash County, with ongoing collaboration between the City of Wabash and School Resource
Officers to ensure that every dollar supports programs that protect and empower local students.

“The Community Foundation is proud to help establish and sustain this important
initiative,” said Melissa Ford-Kalbfell, Development Director of the Community
Foundation of Wabash County. “This fund brings together public safety, education,
and community support to make a lasting difference.”

Community members, alumni, and local businesses are invited to contribute to the fund to help
sustain these safety and relationship-building initiatives.
