Steven Garst Exhibit on display at Honeywell Center through November 5

WABASH, IN – Steven Garst’s exhibit, titled “Making Space,” presented by Honeywell Arts &
Entertainment, is now on display at the Clark Gallery in the Honeywell Center through November 5. The
exhibit features work that examines how humans affect the land and how the land affects them.
Garst is a printmaking and book artist who teaches at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne,
Indiana. He earned his BFA from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and his MFA from Miami
University in Oxford, Ohio. His artwork explores the duality of feeling connected to the land while altering
it. Through his research and his business, the Provisional Press, he leads workshops and hosts events
to make printmaking more accessible.

The exhibit uses firewood imagery as a metaphor for humans’ relationship with the environment.
Humans till the earth and chop down trees, which can be seen as destructive acts. But the earth heals,
regrows, and reclaims, constantly moving toward its natural state. Humans build structures, which decay
and are rebuilt.

The Clark Gallery is named through a generous donation from the Clark Family and supported by the
Kim Clark Family Endowment Fund, as well as gifts from individual and corporate contributors.

The Clark Gallery hosts exhibits by students, amateurs, and professional artists. Visual art experiences
are an important part of the Honeywell Arts & Entertainment mission of providing arts, education, and
entertainment for all. Clark Gallery exhibits are made possible in part by Borders and Beyond Gallery &
Framing, Bowen Health, City of Wabash, Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Intrasect, Oswalt
Thomas Sales & Service, Schlemmer Brothers Metalworks, and Wabash Woollen Works, LLC. To learn
