Bertha Nell Perry, 92, longtime resident of Wabash, Indiana, escaped the bonds of Earth, surrounded by loved ones as she was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 3, 2025. She fought a long and courageous battle before hearing the welcome words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." She was born on April 24, 1933, in Carmi, Illinois, to Silas Ezra Hendrix and Vivian Magenta (Pyle) Hendrix Monroe.
Bertha enjoyed nothing more than sharing her words of wisdom and encouragement (and her table) with family, friends, and guests whose lives she touched throughout her life. Those privileged to have learned from her twenty-eight years of teaching Sunday School at the Wabash Church of the Nazarene were encouraged and challenged to study and live God's Word, as she did.
Bertha married Oscar Perry Jr. in Wabash in April of 1952; he died October 31, 1994. She worked for Wabash Magnetics, Vernon Manor Children's Home and also the Wabash County Hospital. Bertha was an active member of the Wabash Church of the Nazarene. She was a "Mama" through and through, enjoyed cooking and crocheting, but her family was most important to her, and she loved caring for them.
Bertha was preceded to Glory by her husband, her parents, and several siblings. She loved her daughters and rejoiced with every new birth of a grandchild. Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters; Diana Williams of Wabash, Kristina (Mark) Williams of Valdosta, Georgia, Cheryl (Barry) Harmon of Silver Lake, Indiana, and Cindy (Scott) DeHoff of Bluffton, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Robyn) Williams, Mariah (Matt) Elder, Amy (Darren) Parker, Emily (Mike) Jones, Adam (Crystal) Heckaman, Mayra (Danny) Marshall, Andrew (Kelsey) Heckaman, and Haley (Ryan) Donaldson; 18 great grandchildren; her siblings, Wayne (Ramara) Hendrix and Caroline Hall; numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Wabash Church of the Nazarene, 902 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Kirk Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-5 pm Saturday, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash.
