WABASH, IN- Mayor Long is proud to announce the addition of a second full-time School Resource Officer (SRO) for Wabash City Schools. This SRO addition is the result of a strong and ongoing partnership between the City of Wabash and Wabash City Schools. The two officers will further strengthen the safety and well-being of students and staff.
“We are deeply committed to the safety and well-being of our students,” says Mayor Long. “This is a crucial step in response to the growing concerns surrounding school safety. Our goal is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn in a secure and supportive environment.”
Officer Ron Miller has joined Officer Sam Hipskind in serving the community as a full-time School Resource Officer. Both officers are highly trained law enforcement professionals, fully dedicated to protecting students and fostering positive relationships within the school community. Their presence on campus reinforces our commitment to creating an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
The role of an SRO is essential. These officers serve as a visible deterrent to potential threats, provide immediate response capabilities during emergencies, and play a central role in maintaining and performing comprehensive school safety protocols. They collaborate closely with school staff, local law enforcement, and emergency services to conduct regular safety drills and implement proactive safety measures.
Beyond security, SROs also contribute significantly to building a positive school culture. They support conflict resolution, help prevent bullying, and serve as mentors, fostering trust and encouraging responsible behavior among students.
In today’s environment, the importance of an SRO’s role cannot be overstated. Their presence provides peace of mind to students, parents, educators, and the community, ensuring that safety remains a top priority.
