Margaret Marie (Hix) Brown, 96, LaFontaine, formerly of Marion, passed away at 4:26 pm on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Rolling Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in LaFontaine. She was born in Grant County, Indiana, on Thursday, January 31, 1929, and will be laid to rest at Gardens of Memory next to her husband, Harry "Dick" Grant Brown, Jr., with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage.
Margaret and Dick built their home on Bocock Road in 1950, where they lovingly raised their family. She was a devoted wife mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, sister, and mother-in-law. They raised four children, Richard G. (Sharon) Brown (both deceased), Peggy Brown Swan (Tom, deceased), Debra Brown Armstrong-Ramler (Tim, deceased), and Di Brown Finnegan (Frank, deceased). Margaret was a loving and cherished grandmother to Richard L. Brown, Jay Brown (Angie), Brian Brown (Maria), Scott Brown, James Brown, Teresa Swan, Thomas Swan, Tracy Swan, Lilly Armstrong Fields, Paul Armstrong (Sarah), Asa Armstrong, Frank Finnegan, Jr., and Flora Finnegan Sanchez (Adrian); and a proud great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Margaret was the sister of Bob (Becky) Hix (both deceased), Gene Hix (Jondajane, deceased), and Jeannette (Charlie) Douglas (both deceased).
Margaret was a lifelong, active member of Hanfield United Methodist Church and was devoted to her faith and community. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women's Group, who contributed to various charities through baking and by collecting donations. She supported the missionaries overseas and was a champion for the Humane Society. She was also an excellent seamstress for her family and community.
Margaret loved hosting cookouts and Sunday dinners for friends and family in her home. She also loved the simple pleasures of life, such as enjoying the weather on her back porch swing and taking walks with her husband and family. She and Dick were avid gardeners of flowers and vegetables, and she took pride in canning their harvest for the winter.
Margaret's legacy of love, faith, and community service will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
