2 charged in death of 4-year-old boy from apparent ‘self-inflicted’ gunshot

NORTH MANCHESTER, IN — This from WANE.com: Two people are facing a Level 1 felony charge stemming from a late May incident where North Manchester police found a 4-year-old boy dead from an apparent “self-inflicted” gunshot wound. On Tuesday, police arrested 25-year-old Mikayla J. Stanley and 26-year-old Nathan A. Stanley on charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in death. According to a press release from the North Manchester Police Department, the incident happened the morning of May 30 at an apartment complex along Clear Creek Trail. Officers and EMS attempted to perform lifesaving measures, but the child died at the scene. The gun used in the incident was reportedly “unsecured,” according to the North Manchester Police Department. Mikayla and Nathan have jury trials set for October.
