Vina Sites, 87, a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication to others. She was born in Gray, Kentucky on April 26, 1938 to Roy and Rosa (Brafford) Ferrell. On May 26, 1976 she married Doyne Sites.
Vina began her career at RCA in 1956, where she worked with pride and diligence for 38 years until her retirement in 1995. Her work ethic and commitment were unmatched, and she carried those values into her next venture-owning and operating Papa’s Laundromat, also known as Twin City Laundromat, since 1982. Whether it was fresh laundry or a warm meal, Vina made sure her neighbors were cared for. Long before food delivery apps existed, she was Grant County’s original “door dasher,” delivering food, laundry, and kindness to anyone in need.
A natural caretaker, Vina’s heart was rooted in service. She found joy in gardening, canning, baking, quilting, and community projects. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, known for the aroma of her famous vegetable soup, green beans, chocolate sheet cakes, fruit cakes, and the best caramel corn around. Her homemade noodles were a local favorite, and her birthday cakes were legendary. She delighted in giving gifts from the heart-especially $2 bills to her grandchildren.
Vina had a deep love for Gas City and supported local businesses with pride. She enjoyed scenic rides, ice cream stops, and listening to Elvis, classic country, and gospel music. She loved all nature, animals, and flowers, and she found peace in watching them from her window.
She was a devoted quilter, hand-stitching on original frames, and a collector of cookbooks and cast iron skillets. Her hands were always busy, and when asked what she was doing, she’d simply say, “just piddling.” But those who knew her knew she was always working-always giving.
Vina cherished her family deeply. She was the favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews and the heart of every gathering. Her Memorial Day “vacation” was spent at Brafford Cemetery, tending to the grounds and honoring loved ones. She believed in preserving family history and ensuring everyone was remembered.
Her legacy is one of compassion, generosity, and tireless devotion to others. Vina Sites lived a life that mattered-a life that touched countless hearts. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
