Jacob L. “Jake” Gephart

Jacob L. "Jake" Gephart, 89, of Gas City, passed away in his home at 1:56 am on Sunday, September 1, 2024. He was born in Keystone, Indiana, on Tuesday, May 7, 1935, to David and Loma (Gustin) Gephart. On October 11, 1979, he married Joyce A. Mead. Jake graduated from Chester Center High School and was a Machinist for 35 years at RCA until his retirement. He also worked on the family farm for many years. He had owned booths at flea markets throughout Grant County. Jake was a skilled woodworker and had sold many of his handmade items over the years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He liked to take out his pontoon boat and go camping at the lakes. Jake loved seeing his grandchildren, especially going to their sporting events. Jake was a strong-willed, dependable and family-centered man who meant the world to his loved ones. He will be missed dearly. Along with his soul mate and loving wife of 45 years, Joyce, survivors include his daughters, Rita Sharpe Bennett of Montpelier, Becky (late Billy J. Jr.) Pauley of Hartford City; sons, Jeffrey Gephart of Montpelier, Dewight (Debbie) Allen of Alexandria, Robin (Jerry) Allmond of Anderson; granddaughters, Rhonda, Angela, Franny, Jennifer, and Kerri; grandsons, Jarrod, Tommy, Allen, Glenn, and Billy; several great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; sister, Martha (late Donny) Weaver; brother-in-law, Glenn Mead; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; as well as several beloved dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Loma Gephart; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers, Don Gephart, Joe Gephart, Ralph Gephart, Glen Gephart, Carl Gephart, Max Gephart, Dean Gephart, and Kay Gephart; sisters, Helen Gephart and Ethel King; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Mead and Phoebe Sullivan. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, September 9, 2024 as well as 1-hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 11:00 am to 12 noon at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. A funeral to celebrate Jake's life will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
