Death investigation of Grant County inmate
GRANT COUNTY, IN- At 3:48 am, Grant County Deputies were alerted of a male inmate experiencing medical issues. He was immediately taken to the medical room where detention deputies consulted with on-call doctor and advised them that the inmate was complaining of abdominal problems. However, during this time, the inmate became unresponsive.
Deputies acted swiftly, performing CPR while Marion Health paramedics and Marion Fire Department first responders were dispatched to the scene. The inmate was then transported to Marion General Hospital where, despite all efforts, he was pronounced deceased.
Sheriff Garcia has asked the Indiana State Police to conduct a full investigation into the event. The Grant County Coroner will also be involved in determining the cause of death.
