Shirleene Minnick, 69, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 3:15 pm, Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 310 N. Huntington Street in Wabash. She was born on October 20, 1954, in Van Lear, Kentucky, to Robert and Lydia Mae (Butcher) Collins.
Shirley was a 1972 graduate of Wabash High School and received her bachelor degree from Indiana Wesleyan in 1995. She married Arvin Ray Minnick on March 9, 1984; he died December 2, 2017. Shirley taught Social Studies at Casa Grande Traditional School in Casa Grande, Arizona. She was a member of the Compass Christian Church in Arizona. Shirley was a high school softball coach for more than 20 years, and was the National Softball Indiana State Director from 2004-2015. She also coached baseball, basketball, volleyball and has umpired since 1984. Shirley was a volunteer CASA worker for 10 years, and a foster parent for 8 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Holly (Richard Falcone) Sutton and Teresa Sutton, both of Wabash, and April Sutton of Arizona City, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Jazmine (Larry) Chain of Wabash, Jacy (Donavan Stone) Johnson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Kaitlyn Dowdal and Kelsie Olinger, both of Wabash, Tyler (Alexandra Rodriguez) Shepherd and Karson (Esalena Culver) Shepherd, both of Arizona, and Whitney Falcone of Kalamazoo, Michigan; two great-grandchild, Adalina Shepherd and Axell Shepherd; brothers and sister, Robert A. (Jane) Collins and Kenneth Ray (Penny) Collins, both of Wabash, Judith Harlan of South Whitley, Indiana, and Timothy Collins of LaFontaine, Indiana; and her brother-in-law, Loren K. (Betty) Minnick of Effingham, Illinois. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Geraldine Furnish; and brothers, James Douglas Collins and Keith Collins.
